School
History
Lechwe School was founded in 1977 as
an independent, private, multi-national school catering for six hundred
pupils from 2 - 18 years of age (Nursery to 'A' levels). It is
administered by a Board of Management elected from the shareholding body
of Lechwe Education Trust. Shareholders of the Trust include private
companies in Kitwe and prominent individuals of the community.
The first few children had lessons in
two church buildings and when the number increased to over one hundred
in January 1978, when the first-stage buildings were ready, consisting
of blocks of two interconnected classrooms sharing a sink and cupboard
units as well as each having its own storeroom. Buildings have since
been added to the original eight classrooms and administration block and
the school now comprises:

The Secondary Department was
established in 1992 and the Boarding facility introduced in September
1996.
